Grandchildren- Zaben, Stefan, Chase, Meghen, Paige & Payton
Occupation- Retired from SRT
Became a Lion in March, 1992 under the tutelage of Lion Gene Neal.
Reason I became a Lion: I was encouraged by my place of employment, Minot Telephone to become
involved in the community. Lions was suggested and being a morning person, the Magic City Lions was
a perfect fit. Once I joined the group, I soon learned how caring people could be. They immediately
made me feel very welcome.
Awards/Honors- Lion of the year in 2003 & 2007
Melvin Jones Fellowship in 2007
Offices Held- Treasurer
Most memorable moments: Working with all the Lions at Relay for Life, Zoofollies, Grape and Garlic
Festival and planting flowers. Funniest was when a group of us were painting the flower boxes before
planting. It was very windy. I got lots of white paint all over me and managed to get some on Lion
Gene besides the boxes!

""Lion Doreen is the ultimate Lion. She has done so much for the club the last four years when I have been here. She is at
every project and leads most of them. She has a lot of energy and is so kind. She helped me so much in becoming the
treasurer and helps me yet. I applaud her as she is one great Lion."
-Lion Gary Thuner-
"Lion Doreen is a very positive, energetic, caring Lion. A great role model for a new member. I thank her for inviting me to join
this great group."
-Lion Sharon Palmer-
"Lion Doreen is quite the Lion. She volunteers for all the activities and is very active in all the weekly meetings. I admire her
steadfastness and reliability. She is one great Lion. She has always been helpful when we were working on Convention
Committees. Her decorating style is always very creative. It wasn't until a few years ago that we realized we grew up in the
same town of Cando and lived only a few blocks from each other. I didn't know her then, but I am glad I know her now."
-Lion Ron L. Meier-
"This gal is a "True Lion". She takes the motto "We Serve" and fulfills it to the utmost!! Very active in ALL club activities, but
has worked especially hard on Relay For Life event. I know she has lost many hours of sleep thinking how to improve & make
this event always better than the previous year. Great job, Lion Doreen. Warning to all Lions, when Lion Doreen has a paint
brush in her hand, stay clear!! I have the clothes to prove why! Seriously though, I am so proud to have sponsored such an
active member into our club. As incoming President, we will be in good hands."
-Lion Gene Neal-
"Lion Doreen is held in high esteem by those of us who have known her since she became a fellow Lion. Her desire to be of
service to others is commendable. (Relay for Life, etc.) She exemplifies all of the Lion characteristics necessary to be
recognized by our club as a Melvin Jones Fellow."
-Lion David Snyder-
"Doreen has been an outstanding leader in our club. She has lead by example and has logged many volunteer hours over the
past several years. Doreen has been at the forefront of many of our club's community activities. We can be sure that with
Doreen's enthusiasm and high energy, we will have yet another outstanding president of our club!
